May 28, 2009 - Suspect Indicted in Crash That Killed Angels Pitcher Nick Adenhart
A grand jury has indicted the man accused of killing Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others when his minivan smashed into their car last month.
Andrew Gallo, whose family lives in San Gabriel, was indicted Wednesday on three counts of murder and three other felonies for the April 9 crash.
Gallo, 22, already faced similar charges, but prosecutors say the indictment allows them to skip the preliminary hearing.
Police say Gallo had nearly triple the legal blood-alcohol level when his minivan ran a red light and crashed into a car in Fullerton. Gallo had been drinking at two Covina bars before the crash, employees at one of the bars have said.
Also killed was Henry Pearson, 25, of Manhattan Beach, and 20-year-old Courtney Stewart, who lived in Diamond Bar and grew up in Claremont. She was a journalism student at Cal State Fullerton.
Jon Wilhite, 24, of Manhattan Beach, was critically injured.
Adenhart, 22, died hours after he made his season debut by pitching six scoreless innings.
Gallo, who has addresses listed in Covina and unincorporated San Bernardino, is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment on June 8. He is being held on $2 million bail. If convicted, he faces 54 years to life in state prison.
